i played the piano and the trumpet even though i can’t and both recordings were used by other people in their pieces. that was cool. i did the piano first as I was making a piece with harrison and there was a piano in the room and when we played what we had done to everyone they all got very excited. ( ” Pet Shop Boys meets Kraftwerk meets Oval !” )
we wanted to do more recording outside and i ended up making a long piece with leonie.

The Shield of Sound: final title.
we cycled through some very quiet back streets where there are just houses and you can’t even hear the sea! it was nearly dead. we wanted to put noise and life back in there. this place was the houses on the right side of Wear Bay Rd as you come down the hill.
we did lots of recordings in cafe’s and us playing and things and ended up used sounds of us running outside and kicking balls inside and a playground at break time that we passed on bikes and running water on the beach and from a tap and then some odd noises of voice like breath or gasps or someone (bradley) who came in our room. we used long loops and we layered things and some things were copied and cut up too. we also used the bell sound from the shell shop that hannah and holly had recorded.
we recorded and used the sound and the length of the walk from the Lab to this place for the length of our piece. everything else was layed on top. either from how it sounded or from how the patterns fitted on the screen. then we edited it some more.
we used audacity which is free and you can download it from the net so we can do this now at home and anyone can. so thats good.
